Pritzker Architecture Prize 2012

[…] Wang Shu, a 48 year old architect whose architectural practice is based in Hangzhou, The People’s Republic of China, will be the recipient of the 2012 Pritzker Architecture Prize, it was announced today by Thomas J. Pritzker, chairman of The Hyatt Foundation which sponsors the prize. The formal ceremony for what has come to be known throughout the world as architecture’s highest honor will be in Beijing on May 25.*

In announcing the jury’s choice, Pritzker elaborated, "The fact that an architect from China has been selected by the jury, represents a significant step in acknowledging the role that China will play in the development of architectural ideals. In addition, over the coming decades China’s success at urbanization will be important to China and to the world. This urbanization, like urbanization around the world, needs to be in harmony with local needs and culture. China’s unprecedented opportunities for urban planning and design will want to be in harmony with both its long and unique traditions of the past and with its future needs for sustainable development." *Não que isso me incomode por aí além, mas sempre gostava de perceber porque diabo é que Souto Moura teve que se deslocar aos 'States' para receber o prémio em 2011, e em 2012 a cerimónia se vai realizar em Pequim. Questões de escala, certamente…

Critérios...

(...) Que el premio mejor remunerado que se concede a los arquitectos no envíe un mensaje claro sobre lo que considera calidad y rigor arquitectónicos da que pensar. Y debería dárselo también a los organizadores del galardón si además del más remunerado quieren continuar siendo el mejor. A qué obedecen los vaivenes de sus juicios? Acaso entienden que la arquitectura tampoco tiene criterio fijo? O tal vez sostienen que no hay una sino varias maneras de conseguir destacar? Con Piano y Murcutt en el jurado de este año, el mensaje de destacar una arquitectura “con poder y modestia” o  “del momento y la tradición” ha conducido hasta un portugués tranquilo, Eduardo Souto de Moura, que hace unos años reconoció que se había “hecho mayor” y que en arquitectura valoraba “más la naturalidad que la elegancia”. (...) Con la elección de Souto de Moura, el Pritzker ha respondido al complicado clima actual de mantener a la vez la exigencia y el aliento que vive buena parte de la arquitectura europea. Aunque en Asia se viva otro momento. Y también en África. (...)

Pritzker Prize jury chairman, The Lord Palumbo quoted from the jury citation to focus on this year’s selection: “For architecture that is simultaneously delicate and powerful, precise and fluid, ingenious but not overly or overtly clever; for the creation of buildings that successfully interact with their contexts and the activities they contain, creating a sense of fullness and experiential richness; for a singular architectural language that springs from a collaborative process that is both unique and inspirational; for their notable completed buildings and the promise of new projects together, Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa are the recipients of the 2010 Pritzker Architecture Prize ...”

Obra e prémio ainda fase de 'digestão'. Pessoal. Porque havia melhor, muito melhor. Mas sempre direi, para não perder muito tempo com isso, que a obra, reconhecendo-lhe embora alguma qualidade plástica, dificilmente seria construída noutro sítio que não aquele onde o foi.

Que na 'Lusitânia', os vizinhos de ambos os lados haveriam de armar tamanhas zaragatas, as TVs nacionais haveriam de organizar tamanhos debates e haveria tamanhas providências cautelares interpostas em tudo quanto é Tribunal, nem que mais não fosse por incumprimento de uma tal 'moda do quarteirão' invariavelmente consagrada em tudo quanto é PU ou PDM em vigor neste puto país, e estaríamos todos a tentar adivinhar o vencedor do 'Pritzker' 2030 e esta embrulhada ainda longe de ser resolvida.

Mas que havia melhor, como já disse e se pode ver aqui, lá isso havia.

Também fico a pensar como é que ficará o 'quadro' se um dia os vizinhos do lado resolvem reconstruir os seus prédios com a mesma volumetria...
